Earliest memory of hearing about yoga

My mom wanted me to go with her to this “new hot workout” that had just come to town when I was 15. Turns out it was a Bikram yoga studio.

When did you know you wanted to be a yoga teacher?

When I was living in Australia, I felt called to go abroad and study yoga. I picked out the studio I wanted to do my teacher training at…and three years later, I went to Thailand to fulfill that goal.

If you weren’t a yoga teacher you would be

a photographer.

Sunshine, yoga and love brought Cortnee Loren-Brown to Los Angeles this year from chilly San Francisco. After studying various forms of flow yoga for many years, this bright, positive and supportive teacher discovered the healing power of restorative yoga and became hooked on the balance that a daily ashtanga and restorative practice brought into her life. She aims to bring that same balance to her students, often helping even the busiest to learn how to slow down, tune in and refresh. Her classes are hands-on and her adjustments are influenced by her time studying Thai yoga massage. Cortnee is a RYT with a special certification in Relax & Renew restorative yoga from Judith Hanson Lasater. She leads the restoratives portion of the level one teacher training and is also currently completing her 500-hour training at YogaPoser. She also works as a photographer, writer and designer–often for the yoga community.

“Nothing fires me up more than seeing a room full of blissed-out students at the end of a restorative pose. I love knowing that I have the opportunity to teach that doing ‘nothing’ is one of the most powerful things you can do!”
